The progression of League of Legends patchs.
Which each patch, there is new stats added and taken away from champions and items. They even add or take away spells.
In patch 5.20 for League of Legends, the meta (the style of play most used) has headed away from tank champions. This means that they are less useful and therefor not played as much. There where a lot of notable changes made to tank champions.
Instead the meta has headed towards mages. This means that we will see mages having a lot of impact on games because everyone is playing them. Riot (creators of LoL) recently had added a whole new branch of new items to buy in the game that impower your champion's ability powers (mages use this primarly).
This patch did not have a huge impact on the LCS (LoL tournament) which sees most of Riots income.
Last note, riot released new skins that are made available for purchase. (Skins change the way your favorite champions look.)
